PGA Golf Rules (revised)

I am currently working on a series of tutorials for Mojavi as a follow-up to my original introductory post on the framework, the first of which will be posted tomorrow. I will be building from the ground up with simple real-to-life examples, adding complexity through subsequent posts. I also hope to make some headway updating the Mojavi documentation which has been put off due to some imploding project deadlines.

The design for this website is nearing completion, though some vagaries from that one browser remain. I’ve updated my feeds to include my latest links in both RSS and Atom formats, as a service to the many people requesting this feature.

I received a quote on golf by Donald Metz (whoever that is) from a friend of mine a 1/2 hour ago, and since I both love and suck at the game of golf, I decided to google for any other similar golf witticisms. Here’s what I’ve assembled so far:

If a putt passes over the hole without dropping, it is deemed to have dropped. The law of gravity holds that any object attempting to maintain a position in the atmosphere without something to support it must drop. The law of gravity supercedes the law of golf.

A (golf) ball hitting a tree shall be deemed not to have hit the tree. Hitting a tree is simply bad luck and has no place in a scientific game. The player should estimate the distance the ball would have traveled if it had not hit the tree and play the ball from there, preferably atop a nice firm tuft of grass.

A [golf] ball sliced or hooked into the rough shall be lifted and placed in the fairway at a point equal to the distance it carried or rolled into the rough. Such veering right or left frequently results from friction between the face of the club and the cover of the ball and the player should not be penalized for the erratic behavior of the ball resulting from such uncontrollable physical phenomena.
