I don't get it. What's the point?
Nothing spectacular. The difference is simple: rather than you going to, say, 50 different websites everyday to see which have new content and which don't, you enlist software to do the dirty work for you, and have the content come to you. In the good ol' days, I would go through a list of favorite sites I frequented and see which ones had been updated. Now, I fire up Bloglines or NetNewsWire and read through all the recently updated content that's been delivered to my virtual doorstep.
How do I subscribe?
News aggregators like Bloglines, NetNewsWire, or FeedDemon are designed to read ATOM or RSS web pages (commonly called "feeds") and notify you when your favorite blogs or news sites that you have subscribed to have been updated. See this informative article for more information.
